Nor Cal Pelicans Rep Side Debut at USA 7’s

First match for the NCRFU Pelicans – scroll down for game pics

A historic match was played this past weekend as the NCRFU Pelicans Rep Side took to the field for the first time in 20 years. The Side is made up of players selected from 12 clubs in Northern California, and lead by Head Coach Adriaan Ferris. Tryouts and practices have been held since fall, and it was time for Nor Cal’s elite ruggers to put their training to the test against the Texas All Stars.

The match was held at the site USA Sevens Tournament in Las Vegas with good sunny rugby weather. The contest stayed relatively even through the half with the Pelicans down 14-5. Then the Pelicans put the jets on and scored six tries, with Texas scoring as well, coming back for one last one on the last play of the game, but falling short. More to Come form the Pelicans:

The Pelicans have made their first mark in a schedule that will run throughout the year. The next match will be a two-game event at Kezar Stadium on Saturday, June 13th.

After a 20 year absence without any Pelican rep side rugby it is a credit to both the management and the Players in producing attractive winning rugby and restoring pride back to the Pelican jersey.
