Life & Sac. Amazons go on to Finals

Despite probably the coldest summertime temperatures in the country and unrelenting wind.  Hardy ruggers went to work at the fields of San Francisco Golden Gate Rugby Club located on Treasure Island.  First match was at 10:00 with local DIII favorites Colusa County v Wichita Barbarians.  Colusa, which brought a large and boisterous contingent of fans,  came out hard hitting but created a lot of penalties, as many as 6 in quick succession.  This provided opportunities for Wichita.  Wichita eventually found holes in Colusa’s line started to slip through for trys, with the final coming in at 35-14 for Wichita.

I had the pleasure of watching part of Sacramento Amazons v Kansas City Jazz on a scaffold with the Head Coach for the USA Women’s National Team – Peter Steinberg.  Where he filled me in on what he was looking for in bringing new talent to the National Women’s 15 Team.

All during the day I had the opportunity to meet with the captain of each club and present them with a Rugby Ethos shirt to give to the Man / Woman of the Match.  It was great to see there was a lot support for Rugby Ethos and what it stands for.

I also caught a bit of the Life Gladiators v St. Louis Bombers match.  Life was better at virtually every element, however the Bombers did not simply give up either, even with a lopsided final of 79 – 12.

At the end of the day was the DI final,  EPA Razorbacks v Dallas Rugby.  Both clubs were very aggressive and the game was fast paced, with a bit of the dust-up after the half with two yellows issued.  Dallas operated in a very tight manner that allowed them to control the ball and also organize well for defense.  Final: Dallas 35 – EPA 3.

Update:  Sunday’s results below – winners go to the National Finals in Glendale, CO on June 13-14

Men’s DI: Austin Blacks 19 – 15 Dallas Rugby
Men’s DII: Life West 41 – 32 Tempe

Women’s DI: Seattle Saracens 47 – 0 Santa Monica Dolphins
Women’s DII: Sacramento Amazons  21 – 20 Austin Valkyries

Special Shout out to the Tempe Old Devils for exchanging a Tempe Rugby Tank for the Ethos Tee I gave to their Captain – thanks!
